Stella McCartney did not design the opening ceremony outfits

Stella McCartney did not design the outfits worn by Team GB at the opening ceremony. The white and gold tracksuits were created by high street label Next, which became a subject of controversy over the weekend. Twitter users compared them to Elvis costumes.
"To clarify, Stella designed the Team GB performance kit, podium suit & villagewear, not the Olympic ceremony suits," the label Tweeted on Friday.

I like this picture, beautiful and simple.

High Heels

"British women wear the highest heels in Europe, according to a survey by foot care brand Compeed. Although stars such as Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole may opt for higher styles, the average heel height in the UK is 3.3 inches."

Sophie Dahl, face of Aubin & Wills this Autumn

Sophie stars with photographer and model Andre Van Noord in a series of dreamy ads in a woodland forest, dressed in key looks from the labels autumn/winter collection.
Aubin & WIlls is the more grown- up sister label to Jack Wills, Aubin & Wills specialises in classic, beautifully crafted staples in luxurious materials – like the camel pea coat and Chelsea boots Sophie wears in the campaign.

My style of photography is similar to the Jack Wills look and style and I hope to one day be shooting for Jack Wills. It's fun, young and shot on location with use of the natural lighting.

Check out Sophie in the Aubin & Wills video.

Everyone loves Kate Moss!

A post about Kate Moss again...sorry, she's a popular model!
Kate Moss is the subject of a new book launching this November, edited by ex-boyfriend and father to her daughter Jefferson Hack.
"Kate: The Kate Moss Book" will be picture-based, focusing on Kate's impressive twenty year long modelling career..yer she is amazing! The coffee- table book will also be edited by Moss' good friend and casting director Jess Hallett who was the supermodel's maid of honour at her wedding.
The book will include photographs by the world's top photographers including Hedi Slimane, Juergen Teller, Terry Richardson, Corinne Day, Mario Testino and Karl Lagerfeld and her most iconic campaigns such as the 1992 Calvin Klein advertisements.

1992, Calvin Klein controversial ad Campaign with Mark Wahlberg photographed by Herb Ritts. Kate was 18 years old. It was the first of many she modelled for over the years.

Kate Moss Mr Brainwash Graffiti

Kate Moss is the subject of a new artwork on Oxford Street. The brightly coloured mural has been created to promote the debut London exhibition of French street artist Mr Brainwash - real name Thierry Guetta, it will open at The Old Sorting Office on 5th August.
Mr Brainwash is already a favourite of the fashion world, he painted a birthday portrait for LVMH boss Bernard Arnault.  He has also created album covers for Madonna and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

I thought his style of work looked familiar!

Kate Moss has been a source of inspiration for artists for a while now, Marc Quinn's famous gold sculpture of the supermodel sold for over half a million at a Sotheby's auction in October last year. Lucien Freud's painting of Kate Moss has become iconic since its inception in 2003.

Love this one! Little boy taking a photo then splashes of pink coming out, such a cool effect! Can he do my portrait of that please?

Rihanna for River Island

Rihanna is designing a collection for River Island. The British high street label confirmed after rumours in March this year, that she will create a capsule offering, set to hit stores in spring 2013.

"I've been wanting to design my own collection for some time,"
"River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family-run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I'm looking forward to working with them and creating something really special."

"We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rihanna and to be the first fashion brand to work with her in this way,"River Island chief executive Ben Lewis added. "Rihanna is a style icon, from street to chic she enjoys her fashion. As soon as we started to work together we knew this was a perfect fit. Rihanna will be designing the collection and we will be sharing our fashion experience with her to develop a range her fans will love."

Crayola "crayons" for your nails!

Crayola is getting into the nail polish business with a new line of colour box bright nail shades. (Can't blame them!)

Photographer Ruven Afanador

Photographed by Ruven Afanador. I hadn't heard of this photographer before, then when I saw his photographs in Tatler magazine, I wanted to look at other work.

The first three photographs I like because they are your typical every day shots, yet the woman is very glamorous (and airbrushed) so stands out, almost popping out of the picture. From walking down the road with the shopping, peeling vegetables to family life with the children. There is something intriguing about the photos.

Queer Style

Fashion Institute of Technology Museum director Valerie Steele is planning her latest showcase "Queer Style: From the Closet to the Catwalk" , which will focus on gay designers and their influence on the history of fashion.
"One of the most important and fascinating  shows that I've ever worked on because it makes you look at the whole history of modern fashion from a new angle,"
"Everybody knows that there are lots of gay people in fashion, and there have been lots of gay designers: DiorSaint LaurentVersace, etc. But nobody's ever really thought consciously to put the gayness back into fashion history and say: 'Why are there so many gay people in fashion?' and 'Is there a gay aesthetic?' and 'What have been the influences of having so many gay people in fashion?'" - Steele
What do you think?
The exhibition will open next year.

The Face (magazine)

My previous post was talking about Naomi Campbells's new show The Face and I said like the magazine. For those of you who don't know the magazine, I've found a picture of Naomi on the front cover of The Face. January 1994 edition.

Naomi Campbell model search

Naomi Campbell has begun casting for her new television show, "The Face" (like the magazine?)
She has revealed what she is looking for:

"I look forward to discovering the next great model on "The Face" "I'm looking for contestants who have the whole package - a beautiful face, healthy, toned body, unique look, interesting personality, confidence and, above all, strong work ethic and drive. I'm seeking someone who possesses a global, worldly outlook, but can also be seen as a home-grown girl next door."

The show will be formatted in a similar way to the other next top model programs. Contestants compete weekly to become the face of a major national brand, auditions are in New York and Los Angeles.

"Most importantly, i'm looking for a model with a fearless spirit who can completely transform like a chameleon, and take you on a unique journey that makes you believe that even the impossible is possible.  If I find that, I'll find a truly great model!" - Campbell.

Marks & Spencers sales drop

Marks and Spencers sales have fallen despite the adverts featuring Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Twiggy. In this current time people aren't buying, so this could be part of it, but it says that Next have done better than M&S, taking their sales...

Belinda Earl is to join Marks as the high street's part time style director. Her task will be to reinject a sense of style into the M&S clothing range without alienating long-term customers.

What do I think?
Well, M&S if you are reading this... it's a brand that women like my mum and her mum have shopped in the past, want to shop there now but just can't seem to find anything that is their style or fits them. You'd think with Twiggy being the face of M&S there would be suitable clothing for these age ranges, where are the clothes that these women use to love and buy?
"Where M&S succeeds is with its beautifully crafted cashmere range and on its reasonably price lingerie to which there capital's women will always remain loyal."  - Yes this is true, but more of a colour range, style and fit for the cashmere jumpers please.
The lingerie I think is always good for all ages, I've bought some and so have my friends. It fits, priced well and stylish.
Let's just hope Belinda Earl saves M&S and brings it back to where it should be, good luck!

Victoria Secret postponed

The two London stores that were going to be opened in time for the Olympics have now been postponed!
No date has been confirmed yet, just that they will not be opened in July.
I think it's sensible, it will already be sooo busy in London without store openings. I'm very excited to see the new stores when they eventually do open though!

007..the name is Bond

Today the Barbican centre has opened an exhibition dedicated to the story of James Bond. The showcase has been curated by Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming and fashion historian Bronwyn Cosgrave who believes Bond's influence on fashion is undeniable. (I agree actually, thinking about how smartly dressed he is and the beautiful ladies)

"The impact of Bond on fashion is huge" "Designers are always ready to create costumes for Bond films because of their global appeal. What Bond and his female sidekicks wear is endlessly copied." - Cosgrave

"You can't imagine how many times we are asked to remake the classic suit Sean Connery wore.'"

The exhibition includes costumes worn by Bond and his many girls - with pieces by Tom FordOscar de la Renta and Hubert de Givenchy.

Christian Louboutin Cinderella's glass slipper

Christian Louboutin has unveiled his new interpretation of Cindrella's glass slipper to celebrate Disney's re-release of the famous story on DVD available this autumn.

"Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairytale love, but also shoes," said Louboutin. "Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale."

The princess shoe features heels covered in crystals, two delicate, shimmering butterfly embellishments, and of course Louboutin's signature red soles.

"The slipper is the magic wand of transformation, which conjures confidence, beauty and love," said Louboutin. "The dream is a major factor in my language of design. There are no limits in the world of fantasy and there is always a happily ever after."

Candle by Night

Yesterday I helped with an event at the Four Seasons Hotel, there were various stalls and activities going on. I was on the candle making stall working for "Candle by Night".

People came up and chose a colour and fragrance for the candle then mixed it with the wax which is then poured into a beautiful heart tin. They can then choose jewels to stick onto the lid of their heart tin. A good selection of coloured bags to place the candle in complete with a tag. It makes a good present for someone special or just for yourself.
I think everyone enjoyed themselves at this event and it was clear to see candle making proved very popular with both female and male and of all ages!
