Topshop partners with Royal College of Art

Topshop has enlisted the Royal College of Art to re-design the Boutique area of its Oxford Street flagship store. Students on the new Interior Design MA programme competed for the chance to give the space a makeover.

Students had five days to create "An interior system that would encourage shoppers to engage with Boutique clothing and provide an inspirational and stimulating customer experience"

The winning design by Rob Vinall, will be unveiled in-store in time for London Fashion Week in February.

"The winning design delivers something new and innovative that will take Topshop into the future of fashion retail."  said Topshop creative director Kate Phelan.

Vinalls's vision features a triangular ceiling grid from which products can be suspended, and which can be altered periodically to create different moods. The design also incorporates a graduated wall graphic printed onto one mirror - in a matching colour palette to the ceiling grid - designed to give the illusion of "a top-heavy level above."

"The initial concept was an idea of cause and effect, giving importance to the elements of hanging and balance" explained Vinall. "The design needed to enhance and give prominence to the detail of the clothing, whilst also being functional and interesting space to shop and browse."

The final installation will also break out into the main shop floor, to try and entice shoppers into the Boutique space.

"The genius of Rob's design is to hang the merchandise from a suspended grid to remove everything off the floor." said Ab Rogers, head of the Interior Design MA programmed. "It's an antidote to classic retail design where most display systems have large unfilled volumes of space above them. The grid creates discipline and precision bringing elegance and calm to the Boutique's interior."

Coco Rocha turns photographer for Sass & Bide

Coco Rocha is turning street style photographer for Sass & Bide. The model who fronts the brand's spring/summer 2013 campaign will take over the label's new website and social media channels for a week to share candid fashion photographs taken with her own camera.
What a great idea? Even better if used with a polaroid, now that could look cool.

"Street style is more important now than ever before. There was a time when your pop stars, movie stars and top models could go to grocery stores wearing pyjamas and fuzzy slippers if they wanted and there would probably be no evidence of that" Rocha told us.
"Now with a camera on every cell phone we all need to think a little more carefully about how we dress up when we leave the house"

The model will take charge of sassandbide.com from 28th January for five days, and will share pictures of her self-styled looks taken from the brand's spring/summer 2013 collection as well as giving followers an insight into the everyday life of a model off duty.

"Personally, I love styling myself and putting together my own looks. We models are especially lucky to be given some amazing pieces from brands and designers, so why wouldn't we want to show them off? "Usually I get my street style fix by following my friends and fellow models like Behati Prinsloo, Doutzen Kroes and Hilary Rhoda on Instagram"

Shoppers will have a chance to win one of the Sass & Bide looks worn by the model, by entering a competition online.

"Usually I find brands just focus on their tops and leave the bottoms rather generic looking"
"What I love about this Sass & Bide collection is that there are great tops and so many amazing statement jeans in the collection. Literally, a different pair for every day of the month.

P.S I love the mirror picture!

Fashion Weekend to celebrate larger models

"Fashion houses have a reputation for shunning the curvier woman in favour of thin, androgynous models. But now - thanks partly to celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Beyonce celebrating their curves and a rush of fashion bloggers ( yay!) calling for better representation - the capital is to have a "plus-size" altenrative to London Fashion Week.
The first Official British Plus-Size Fashion Weekend is set to take place at Shoreditch Town Hall at the same time on February 15th and 16th.

Although the two events are not officially conned, organisers hope that the timing will help raise the status of plus-size fashion in a bid to make size 12-24 models such as size 16 Ralph Lauren model Robyn Lawley more commonplace.
It will feature clothes and swimwear for women sized 12+ by fourteen designers including Simply Be, Syneeta Badu, Carolyn de la Drapiere and up-and-coming London-based label One One Three.

As well as professional models such as Jada Sezer, who is the face of the event, it will feature first-time models who were invited to audition.

She said woman want to see models whose bodies they can identify with.

"It has helped definitely to have curvier celebrities like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian but I think there is also a movement of women who are tired of seeing women they can't identify with. People are feeling stronger to say they want to be represented. Bloggers have been a massive help to the community" (wooop!)

"As this collection is launching so close to Valentine's Day, it was more important than ever to make sure that all the new colours complemented all skintones," explained Rosie. "We decided upon a gorgeous palette of blush pinks and warm neutrals which every woman will love to wear."

"Rosie and I put softness and romance at the very top of our creative agenda for this collection" said Jenkinson.  - They definitely have because looking at these stunning pictures you can feel the softness and the romance.
"Lingerie is a beautifully personal, intimate gift and so every attention to detail was designed with femininity in mind, using the finest fabrics such as sumptuous silks and French designed rose lace."
I have fallen in love with the collection, have you? Just need someone to buy it for me!

Tom Ford London Catwalk Show

Tom Ford has confirmed that he is going to hold his first full-scale catwalk show during London Fashion Week next month. The designer has previsously preferred to show his new collections within small private presentations, allowing no photographers.
"This is going to be for 500-1,000 people. Photographers, bloggers - a regular, real show" "I want to show in London because I now have 100 stores worldwide. The company has jumped and I can no longer service the stores by not showing. So I have to love it and embrace it."
The reason the Texas-born designer decided to launch his own-name label back in 2005 was because he couldn't find anything both comfortable and stylish to wear.
"I literally could not find what I wanted to wear. I went to Anderson & Sheppard on Savile Row - which is great - but my suits gave me a backache. A backache. Savile Row tailoring comes from military heritage," he told The Times Magazine. "I try everything on. Just as I do with everything, I'm always aware of trying to make someone look as thin, tall and strong as possible. I'm a perfect production-model body, a perfect size 48."
